BEST, LEVI JOHN (August 21, 1938 - September 29, 2013) - L. John Best of Stone Ridge, NB passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Lunenburg, NS, he was a son of the late Henry and Martha (Vallis) Best. John served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 36 years. While in the Forces he did UN tours in Cyprus, Germany and Egypt. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Centurian Club. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Pugh, Stone Ridge, NB; three sons, Terry, Troy (Tara) and Daren (Lorraine), all of Stone Ridge, NB; five grandchildren, William (Melissa), Tamra (Billy), Tristan, Sierra and Asia; two sisters, Annabelle King (Winston), Newfoundland and Sheila Morris (Jim), Lunenburg, NS; a brother, Cecil Lace (Jean), Alberta; two sisters-in-law, Mavis Upshaw (Jim), Fredericton, NB and Wanda Allen, Zealand, NB; special cousins Edward Davis and May Grant, Maine, USA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Isabel Cleady (Allen) Best, his step-father, Cecil Lace, an infant brother David Best and an infant sister, Mary Best.
Visiting hours will be held at the Stone Ridge Pentecostal Church, 129 Upper Stone Ridge Road, Zealand, NB on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the church on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. with The Venerable John Sharpe officiating. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of John, the family has suggested the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
