LESLIE JAMES FOWLER

LESLIE JAMES FOWLER

Our beloved Leslie James Fowler, husband, father, grandfather, friend to so many, died in the early morning hours of September 15, 2013 at the North Vancouver Hospice. His passing was accompanied by a thunder and lightning storm; a fitting tribute to a life so completely and so vigorously lived.
Les accomplished much in his far too short time on this planet. He was a fisherman, a community activist, a choral director, a band leader, a businessman, an electronics technician and a builder of boats and houses. Les was the smoothest dancer in this or any town, not a bad trombonist, a world-class scotch enthusiast and a fierce family man.
He willed the Pender Harbour Music Society into being, worked and organized and cajoled until a building materialized and became a music school and performance venue. He dreamed the Harbour Lights Big Band into reality and invented the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival.
His ideas and visions all had a habit of coming true as he made his way through a boisterous and rollicking life.
He was an extraordinary man.
Les is survived by his wife Joyce, ex-wife Lorna, children Stirling and Carrie, Keith, Karen (Greg) and Shannon, grandchildren Melissa, Zoe, Emma, Kyle and Jesse, and by his sister Shelley.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 27 at the Pender Harbour Community Hall, with a gathering at the Pender Harbour School of Music to follow.
