1919-2008 The death of Henry Trent “Lofty” McGlynn occurred suddenly at The Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, N.B., on Sunday, September 14, 2008. Born in Sidmouth, England, November 13, 1919, Henry was the son of the late Daniel McGlynn and Beatrice Mable Trent. During the Second World War he was a member of the RAF and fought in the Battle of Britain as well as other wartime theatres. In 1941, he was sent to Canada (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. There he met and married his Canadian wife, Mary Martin. After the war he immigrated to Canada and settled in Prince Edward Island until 1962. He was then transferred to New Brunswick with the airline and eventually moved again to Nova Scotia where he retired in 1984. In 1995 he and his wife returned to New Brunswick to live. Henry, fondly known as “Lofty”, worked for Maritime Central Airway, Eastern Provincial Airways and Canadian Pacific. Aviation was his life and passion, and he also loved to garden, hunt and fish. Henry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch # 6, and the Turnbull Chapter of the Aviation Historical Society and a past member of the Aviation Heritage Society in Halifax. Henry will be sadly missed by his daughter, Anne McGlynn-Chiasson (Clifford), Moncton; son, William (Josie) St. Norbert, N.B.; grandson, Ernest McGlynn and granddaughters, Marcia and Jennifer Chiasson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary; a grandson, Michael; his brother, William (Patricia); niece, Carol, and brother-in-law, Emmett Martin. Following Henry’s own wishes, there will be no visiting hours prior to the funeral service to be held on Friday, September 19, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. A reception for Lofty’s family and friends will follow the service in the Garden View Reception Room. Interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation.
