NEW GLASGOW/AVONDALE – Margaret Robertson Germaine, 96, Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, formerly of New Glasgow and Avondale passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Windsor Elms Village, surrounded by her family.
Born at Marshy Hope, she was a daughter of the late Hector and Ellen Annie (Robertson) Germaine.
She was an educator for 28 years, beginning her career in one-room schools and teaching in many schools throughout the county. Margaret’s students were her first priority as she diligently prepared them to succeed in life. She was a member of the Marshy Hope Presbyterian Church, Ladies Aid and former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Nova Scotia NDP.
Surviving are daughters, Eva Ellen (Dr. Steven) Shimotakahara, North Bend, Oregon; Ivy Elizabeth (David) Shaw, Stillwater Lake; son, Earl Chester Germaine, Melmerby; brother, Rev. James (Annabelle) Grant, Woodstock, Ont.; former daughter-in-law, Jean Germaine, Linacy; grandchildren: Tim, Danielle and Alexandra Shimotakahara; Shauna and Debbie Germaine; David Freddy and Wanda Meikle; Darcy and Melanie Foye; 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dana Gladding Germaine; daughter, Beverly Lambert; son-in-law, John Lambert; sister, Katherine Elizabeth MacLaughlin.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment of will be in Kenzieville Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to Kenzieville Cemetery Fund.
