It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Douglas Higgins age 66 of Port Howe and formerly of Higginsville, NS on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 20, 1947, Ray was born in Higginsville, NS, he was a son of the late Glen R. and Eva B. (Young) Higgins.
In his younger years, Ray worked for Annan Transport and later with J.P. Baughan Transport for 35 years. Ray was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his motorcycles and was a founding member of the Musquodoboit Valley ATV club.
Ray will be lovingly remembered by his spouse, Dawn Helm; brothers, Larry (Gail) of Truro, and Philip (Valerie) of Higginsville; sister in law, Marjorie (Roy) Ross of Chaswood; nephews, Jeffery and Glen Higgins, Randy, and Jason (Debbie) Ross; niece, Laura (Colin) Ross; great niece, Emily; great nephew, Angus; as well as a large extended family.
In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his wife the former, Karen Webster.
As per Ray’s wishes cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906).
There will be no visitation.
A public graveside service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Higginsville United Church Cemetery with Mrs. Ruth Gamble, DLM, presiding. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow in the Musquodoboit Valley Bicentennial Theater.
Memorial contributions in Ray’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Hospice/Palliative Care Society or a Palliative Care Society in your area.
