Isabelle Harris, 74, of Main Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James Corliss and Katherine Ford (Lewis) MacKay.
Isabelle was a member of Knox United Church and choir, the UCW and Knox Session. In her younger years she was employed with the Bank of Montreal. Isabelle was very active in her community. She volunteered at the Old Town Hall Museum on McKeen Street, Glace Bay for 14 years. She was a member of the Glace Bay Historical Society and the Glace Bay Horticulture Society.
Isabelle was an avid reader and loved music. She loved sitting on her deck in Mira and enjoying nature. But mostly, Isabelle will be remembered as a very caring and compassionate lady who was always there for her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Anne Mock (Terry), Georgia, U.S.A.; her son, Ian Corliss Harris, Toronto; two sisters, Heather Irwin (Gene), Dartmouth, Marie Carmella ‘Bunny’ Taylar (Charles), Halifax; one brother, James Lewis MacKay (Jane), Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Kate Breton Mock, Ty Mock and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Harris and Rhilda Van Fegglan.
Besides her parents, Isabelle was predeceased by her husband, William Robert Stuart Harris.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Knox United Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Dr. John Finlayson officiating. Interment will be at a later date. All are invited to join the family in the lower level of Knox Church for a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox United Church or the Old Town Hall Museum, Glace Bay.
