Price, Gerald Isiah - It is with great sadness the family would like to announce the death of Gerald I Price, husband of the late Audrey Price of Hoyt, NB; which occurred on October 10, 2013 at the DVA in Fredericton, NB with his oldest daughter, Diane by his side. Born in Wards Creek, on March 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Ralph and Elmina Price.
Gerry resided at the DVA in Fredericton since January, where he still enjoyed gardening and working in the work shop - where he got a number of dresser and end tables re-finished before his passing. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his special friend Norman Stewart.
He served in the 2nd World War and received the following medals for his service: 1939 – 1945 Star, France Germany Star, Defense Medal for Britain, Victory Medal and Holland Medal. Gerry retired from CFB Gagetown Fire Department in 1985 after an established career of 29 years.
He was well known for his contribution to the community and fire service. He was involved with the following organizations: Civil Defense; Red Cross Swimming; Boys Scouts; Founding Member, Past Fire Chief and Life Member of the Hoyt Fire Department; Founding Member of the Hoyt Junior Fire Department; Founding Member of Hoyt Search and Rescue; Founding Member, Past President, Honourary Member of the Capital District Fire Fighter’s Association; Founding Member and Honoury Member of the New Brunswick’s Fire Chief Association. He spent many hours training volunteer fire departments in New Brunswick and was a member of the Blissville Baptist Church. From all this involvement, he has received the following honours: inducted into the New Brunswick Fire Chief’s Hall of Flame in 1996; part of the initial group to receive the Exemplary Medal and Clasp for 20 years’ service as a firefighter, presented to him by Govt. General Mde. Jeanne Sauve in Ottawa; New Brunswick Fire Service Medal for 30, 40, and 50 years of service, theCanadian Forces Decoration Medal and the Queen’s Jubilee 25th and 50th anniversary medals.
Gerry is survived by his seven children: Diane (Wendell) Moore, Lois (Robert) Ogden, Ethel (Harold) Bennett all of Hoyt; Alice (Ronnie) Mersereau of Fredericton Junction; Daryle (Sandra) Price of Hoyt; Leslie (Bob) Morrell of Rusagonis and Jody (Darlene) Price of Oromocto. 17 grandchildren: Mike and Scott Greenough, Lori Butler, Shelley and Danny Ogden, Dennis and Andrew VanWart, Timmy and Karin Bennett, Timmy Mersereau, Pammy Luke, Peter Price, Julie Pineo, Holly Kirkpatrick, Blake and Craig Price. 24 Great Grandchildren and five Great Great Grandchildren. His one sister Margaret Robinson of Saint John and two brothers Neil and Jack Price of Barnsville, along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Audrey Price; sisters: Ruth Price, Geraldine Gilbert, Lois McKinney, Nellie Hanberry and Ethel McConchie; son Baby Gerald, granddaughter Tammy Pollack; great-grandson Tony Luke and son-in-law Harry Greenough.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the DVA, especially Linda and Mary-Anne, for the excellent care of Dad for the time he spent there. Also family would like thank the numerous care givers during his care at home.
Resting at Sunbury Funeral Home 5407 Route 101, Central Blissville, NB. Family will receive visitors on October 13, 2013 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral service will be held at the Blissville Baptist Church in Hoyt October 14, 2013 at 2pm with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Blissville Baptist Cemetery, Hoyt. A reception will be held at the Hoyt Fire Department. In Lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Hoyt Fire Department , the Mini Bus or donors choice.
