Kay Burns, 75, of Drew Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Robert and Annie Barter.
Kay was a member of Glace Bay United Baptist Church. Kay graduated from Normal College, Truro, and was employed as a teacher for 34 years, retiring in 1994 from Lakevale School, Sydney. Some of her hobbies included bowling, knitting, sewing, quilting and in her younger years, dancing. Kay was an avid fan of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and the Toronto Blue Jays. But mostly, Kay will be remembered as a loving and compassionate lady. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of over 50 years, Pat Burns; two daughters, Cheryl Gallagher (Archie), Glace Bay, Kim Luke (Bruce), New Jersey; two sons, Todd (Laurie), Halifax, Stanley (Brenda), Alberta; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Kay was predeceased by two sisters, June Blades and Jeanette Shaw.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Gary Dillon is Thursday, 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
