It is with great sorrow, but with a sense of profound gratitude for a long, well-lived life, that we announce the death of our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away quietly, in her ninety-ninth year, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with family by her side. She retained her faculties and sense of humour to the end.
Born in Sydney Mines, Pat was the daughter of well-known labour activist Coll MacDonald and his wife, Annie Belle (MacDonald) of Sydney. She attended Sydney schools and was a graduate of Sydney Academy. Always an active person, she continued to bowl long after her 90th birthday.
Pat was a long time member of both the Order of the Eastern Star, Glace Bay Chapter, and Isle Royale Chapter, I.O.D.E. She proudly attended all biennial gatherings of Clan Donald and Angus of Cape Breton. A faithful member of Knox United Church for over 77 years, she was active in the UCW and was the longest serving participant in the church choir, retiring at age 97.
Predeceased by her husband, James R. Mosley in 1978, and by sisters, Helen Tingley and Jean Morris and bothers, John W.A. MacDonald and Rev. Dawson MacDonald, Pat was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by sons, Terrence (Julia) Mosley, Glace Bay, Douglas (Priscilla) Mosley, Yarmouth and daughter, Jane (Fraser) MacGregor, Boularderie.
Also surviving are Nanny Pat’s pride and joy, her grandchildren, James S. Mosley, Lorna Mosley (John Bettens), Lesley Mosley (Francis Burke), Janet (John A.) Surette, Jennifer Mosley (Warren Doucette), Colin (Patricia) Mosley, Derek (Rhoda) Mosley, Heidi (Byron) Davis, Bruce (Lesley) MacGregor, Patricia MacGregor (Phill Thomas), Sarah (Jeffrey) Roy and 20 great-grandchildren.
Also mourning Pat’s passing are sister-in-law, Margaret MacDonald, Moncton; brother-in-law, T.J. 'Joe' Morris, Port Hawkesbury, along with nieces and nephews, Colleen McLaren and Sheila Snyder, Adrienne Smith, JoAnne Armitage, and Jeff Morris, Anne Rowe, Barbara Murphy, Lyn MacMillan and cousins, Sewell (Edda) Ferguson, Anne (Wayne) Kerr and Mel Paint.
Our thanks to the staff and to all her friends at Parkland, Sydney, her home for the past six months, for all kindnesses and to Mel and Anne for their many visits. To her long-time doctor, Stephanie Elleker M.D., to Jacqueline Doucette RN, Dr. Peter Jackson and to the nursing staff of 4A Cape Breton Regional Hospital, we offer thanks for compassionate care of our mother.
According to her long-standing wishes, Pat’s body has been donated to Dalhousie University for medical research.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Knox United Church, Glace Bay, on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev John Finlayson. A reception will follow.
In memoriam donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
