After a long life of love and laughter, Mary passed away peacefully in her home, with family, on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. Mary was in her 96th year.
Mary was born June 24, 1918, in Grass Cove, Cape Breton, to the late Murdock and Christina 'Tena' (Devoe) MacNeil.
She was married to Kenneth Tyne, who passed away in 1968. They raised nine children, Betty (John) Boone, Ont.; Greg (Linda) Tyne, Ont.; Mike (Patsy) Tyne, B.C.; Paddy (Jean) Tyne, B.C.; Lynn (Eddie) Higgins, Glace Bay; Gerry (Blanche) Tyne, Glace Bay; Billy (Karen) Tyne, B.C.; Bernie Tyne, Glace Bay; Annette (Robert) Porter, Glace Bay. Ma was loved dearly and will be missed by her grandchildren, John, Chris, David, Kathryn, Matthew, Michelle, Raylene, Patrick, Brian Joseph 'BJ', Andrew, Josh, Blair, Kenneth, Brandon and Diane. Ma delighted in the company of her great-grandchildren, Jodi, Ben, Kara, Alexander, David, Owen, Isaac, Jes, Evan, Liam, Connor, and Julia. Mary is also survived by her sister, Lexie Norman, Ont.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her stepfather, Allen Alex MacNeil; grandson, Brian Joseph 'BJ' Higgins; brothers, Cecil MacNeil, Dennis MacNeil; sisters, Marie MacNeil, Rhodena Burtinsky, Evelyn MacNeil.
Kind, caring and a loving mother to her own children as well as many others who loving called her "Ma Tyne" also lovingly known as "The Big Kahuna".

Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday Oct. 21st, 2013, 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Reception to follow in church hall.
