Hardy Doerksen
Passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at his home in Moose Jaw at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Donna for over 55 years. Predeceased by his son Lonny (1971), grandson Kristofer Heck, his sister Kathy Gerbrandt, and brothers Frank, Jake, Pete, Henry and John. Loving father of Penny Heck (David) and Tammy (Stephen Smith). Cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Michael (girlfriend Dacy Vance), Colin, Kiera and Trevor. Hardy will be fondly remembered by his twin sister Helen Doerksen, brother in law Maynard Lougheed, and sisters-in-law Mary Doerksen, Ruth Doerksen and Marilyn Tremblay and many nieces and nephews. Hardy was born in Brownlee, SK. on February 6, 1929 to Frank and Helena Doerksen. He grew up on the family homestead and attended Beacon School North of Eyebrow. He attended Winkler Bible School in Manitoba with his sister Helen in 1945. He then spent a short time in the Niagara Peninsula with family, worked in BC for a short time, but then returned to Moose Jaw to work in the construction of the new wing of the Union Hospital. He met Donna Lougheed in 1954 and they were married on Nov 2, 1957. They stayed in Moose Jaw for a short while and Hardy sold Fuller Brush. In the spring, they returned to the family farm where they began their family, eventually taking over the farm in Eyebrow in the fall of 1958 where they remained until 1987. They sold the family farm and retired to Eyebrow in 1988. Hardy had been driving school bus since 1972 and continued until 1995. He moved to Moose Jaw in 2011 to be nearer to Donna who required longer term care at Pioneers Lodge. Hardy spent many years building a beautiful collection of heirlooms and other treasures that his family will enjoy for generations to come. He had attended the Mennonite Church in Eyebrow for most of his life before attending the Alliance Church in Moose Jaw for many years. Friends and family are invited to attend a service to be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Parkview Funeral Chapel, with an interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorial Donations to www.lonnyssmile.org would be appreciated by the family.
