Warren Comeau
COMEAU, WARREN - Warren Charles Comeau, loving husband of May Perry-Rigby-Comeau, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1923 in Saint John he was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Hughes) Comeau. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Marion Irene (McCarron) Comeau; son John A. “Jack” Comeau; brothers Hilton J., Arthur A., Earl J., Lawrence and William (Moose); sisters Rita, Vivian and Marjorie. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Warren volunteered in 1942 to serve his country. He landed at Juno Beach during the D Day Invasion of Normandy with the 12th Canadian Light Field Ambulance (Jeeps). Warren served as a medic in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he pursued training in laboratory technology and became the Director of the Lab at the Tuberculosis Hospital in East Saint John and later in the same capacity at the Saint John General Hospital. He was the consummate Veteran. He was a Charter Member of Branch # 87 Royal Canadian Legion where he severed as President on a number of occasions. He was the Service Officer as well as Poppy and Remembrance Chair for over 50 years. He marched vigorously in the victory parade during the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands where he was warmly embraced by legions of Dutch people. He was Charter member of the Greenwich Recreation Association. He was active in Scouting; a beloved coach and surrogate father to countless hockey and baseball players. His exuberance in critiquing the calls of umpires was unparalleled and legendary. He ran the Boston Marathon at the age of 51. He was a master of the superlative and was ever-encouraging to anyone who would listen to do their best, no matter what. He was veracious reader. His passion for history and literature, particularly poetry was a source of great pleasure for him, and is a legacy to his family. In addition to his loving wife May, he is survived by his son Warren G. Comeau (Peggy) of Glenwood; step-children Sharon and Gerard Rigby of Saint John; daughters-in-law Trudy Comeau-Roper (Joe) of Glenwood and Joy Comeau (Paul) of Grand Bay-Westfield; grandchildren Erin Comeau, Lindsay Comeau, Marcus Comeau (Laura), Katelyn Ricketts (Andrew) and Jared Comeau (Kathleen); great grandchildren Chase, Cohan, Channing and Paige; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening beginning at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 12:10 p.m. Following cremation, interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
