It is with sadness, that we, announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Helen Rita MacKinnon. Mother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home, Sydney River, with her family by her side.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Ellen (Campbell) Fielding, was a member of St. Anne’s Church, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mother was a true homemaker, a job she cherished. She enjoyed baking and was well-known for her homemade bread. Throughout her younger years mother spent a lot of her time ice skating and in later years she was also involved as a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul society at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport.
Helen will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Angela Moorer, Birmingham, Alabama, Ellen (David) Thomey, Sydney. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Catherine Thomey, Angela Thomey, both of Sydney, Mitchell Moorer, John Moorer, Wyatt Moorer, all of Birmingham, Alabama.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, John, sisters, Mary, Clare, brothers, Bruno, Charles and Leonard.
Visitation for Helen will be held Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
