Dykens, Deborah Marie, age 59, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with her loving family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 12, 1954, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Deb was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Robinson) Harvey. She was the first born of seven children. Deb was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend. Deb was an avid crafter, quilter, who loved camping with her family, and who also loved her jewelry. Deb was well known for her beautifully decorated Christmas trees. She spent many years working at the Nova Scotia Textiles and in later years for Dexter’s Construction, alongside her loving husband Lawrence. She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Snow (May), Three Mile Plains; devoted son John, at home; granddaughter, Sarah who was the light of her life and step granddaughter, Kate Hardy of Halifax; great grandson, Benjamin; sisters, Margaret (Stephen) MacDonald, Three Mile Plains; Darlene (Brian) Dykens, Falmouth; Linda (Roger) MacDonald, Three Mile Plains; Betty (David) Burgoyne, Three Mile Plains; Karen (Kevin) Swinamer, Three Mile Plains; special cousin, Susan (Blair) Burgess, Garlands Crossing, who she thought of as a sister; brother, Billy (Shannon) Harvey, Ellershouse; and many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, George and Dorothy (Robinson) Harvey; she was predeceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Lawrence Amos Dykens (2012); a son in infancy. Cremation has taken place, and there was no visitation by request. A celebration of Deb’s life was 2 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013, in the Three Mile Plains Community Hall. The Rev. Tom Henderson officiated, followed by a reception. Burial will be held at a later date in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. Special thanks to Dr. Mark Kazimirski, Dr. Tim Matheson, and Dr. Cathryn Smith; to Bev Lyttle and the Palliative Care Team, and also to the staff of Hants Community Hospital. Heartfelt thanks to those who helped in anyway during Deb’s extended stay in hospital.
