Edward B.M. Curtis

Age 90, of Dartmouth, N.S., passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital in Halifax.
Born in Toronto, ON, he was the son of Leonard and Vivian Curtis (MacLeod). The family lived in several towns in Ontario before moving to Liverpool, N.S. He was active in many sports as a young man including swimming, baseball, basketball and rugby. His first job was at White Point Lodge. He was a veteran of the Canadian Merchant Navy during the Second World War serving as a radio operator, and travelled as far as Calcutta, India. He attended UNB after the war and went on to study at the Radio College of Canada. Some time was spent working on the DEW line and he began working at CBC television in Toronto in 1954. Also in 1954 he helped open the new CBC television station in Halifax, N.S. He became a Technical Producer for programs such as Singalong Jubilee and Don Messer.
After retiring in 1983 he took up golf, and served as tournament chairman of the NSGA. He was also an active member of the Atlantic Swells barbershop singers.
Survived by brother, Don Curtis; sons, Gordon and Glenn (Beverly); granddaughters, Jennifer and Jessica; great-granddaughter, Lilah Sangster; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Eva Curtis (MacLeod); parents, Leonard and Vivian (MacLeod); brother, Bert; and sister, Jeane.
Visitation to be held Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 1 p.m. Memorial service and reception to follow at 2 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Rev. Valerie Kennedy officiating. Burial in the Crapaud People's Cemetery, Crapaud, P.E.I., at a later date.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
