Fannie Elizabeth Whalen
It is with sadness and thanksgiving that the family of Fannie Elizabeth Whalen announces her passing at the Long Term Care Centre in Corner Brook on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the age of 97. Leaving to mourn with loving memories her children: Angela (Brian Sinclair), St. Catherine’s, Ontario; Beulah (James Dobson), Grand Falls-Windsor; Melvin (Juliet), Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia; Thelma (Ross Elliott), Corner Brook; Allister (Hazel), Deer Lake and Ruby (Edward Kelly), Rocky Harbour; her grandchildren: Susan, Peter, Matthew, Alison, Rachel, Jeremy, Derrick, Dwayne, Lisa, Krista; her great-grandchildren: Sarah, Molly, Hunter, Abigail, Jordan and Paige; her siblings: Ralph Young, Dorothy (Allan Noel), Pearl (Lloyd Traverse) and Emmanuel Young; sisters-in-law: Phoebe Young, Bessie Young, Melina Pittman. Also leaving to mourn a large number of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Fannie was predeceased by her husband, William Whalen; her grandson, Keith; her parents Henry & Naomi Young, her siblings Garfield, Hayward, Hector, Harold, Ella, Wycliffe; her sisters-in-law Lillian Young, Emma Young, Joan Young, Joanie Young, Albertha Janes; brothers-in-law: Doyle Mills, Joe Earle, Maxwell Loder, Arthur Anstey, Baxter Janes, Llewlyn Whalen and special friend Eli Bingle. Fannie was a resident of Deer Lake for many years until her move to Mountain View Estates, Corner Brook, in July, 2008 and eventually to the Long Term Care in September, 2010. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army Corps, Deer Lake, or to a charity of one’s choice. Visitation took place at Parsons Funeral Home 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, on Sunday, November 24th, 2013, from the hours of 7- 9 p.m., Monday, November 25th, 2013, from the hours of 2- 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral service took place at the Salvation Army Church in Deer Lake, Tuesday, November 26th 2013, at 2 pm, with Majors Wayne & Betty Ann Pike officiating, with the burial following at the family plot of the church cemetery on High Street, Deer Lake, NL.
