It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved 'Mother', grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Margaret Catherine MacDonald. Margaret peacefully passed away at home with her loving family at her side on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013.
Born in Glace Bay, Sept. 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Nora (Ling) McNeil, Margaret was a devout Catholic and was a faithful member of St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay.
Margaret especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. In her younger years she was involved in the home and school program and the CWL. She had great joy baking apple pies and singing. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and taking daily drives.
Margaret will be sadly missed by her loving children, daughters, Sandra (Donnie Smith), Peggy (Charlie MacDonald), Lorraine (Bill Fanson) and Barbara (Laurie MacNeil); sons, Billy (Cathy), Barry, Hughie (Paulette); 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lenore Hayes, Theresa (Ralph) Curnew; brothers, Michael and Gerard; brother in-law, Art Spencer; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents she was also predeceased by her husband, William 'Little Billy', a child in infancy, sisters, Jenny (Willie) Gallivan and Ann Spencer, brothers, Daniel and William.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. Interment will follow in St. Anne’s Parish Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church foyer.
Family flowers only, as an expression of sympathy for Margaret, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
