Ada Elizabeth Waye (née Cornforth), age 78, passed away peacefully on Dec. 3, 2013, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Birch Grove, Ada was the daughter of the late Grace and Henry Cornforth.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a life-long member of the Glace Bay Baptist Church and a founding member of the Genevieve Morrison Missionary Group. A beautiful singer and choir soloist, she was a kind and gentle woman who loved her church and family. Those who knew her were blessed.
Ada is survived by her husband, Sam Waye; daughters, Phyllis Wallace (Ken, Delaware, OH) and Lisa (Mississauga, Ont.); son, Herb (Christine; Oxford Mills, Ont.); grandchildren, Andrew, Jillian, Michael, Shawn, and great-grandchild, Archer; sisters, Thelma Ashe (Birch Grove), Verta Barrington-Cassleman (Don; Brockville, Ont.), Rhoda Dowe (Larry, Glace Bay) and brother, Earl Cornforth (Marie, Catalone); sister-in-law, Blanche Murrant (Ed, Glace Bay); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ada was predeceased by sisters, Reta King (Albert, Glace Bay), Lena (Ferrara-Durnford-Herbison, Brockville, Ont.), Verna (Sharpe-Brennan; Brockville, Ont.), and brother, George Cornforth (Jean; Brockville, Ont).
The funeral service (under the care of Patten Funeral Home) will be held at the Glace Bay Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m., followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Gary Dillon officiating. There will be a reception afterwards at the Glace Bay Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation Renal Dialysis Unit or a charity of one’s choice.
