Dee Duggan

(Dolores C.) A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Dee, with grace and dignity, finished her life's journey on March 11, 2008. She was born October 12, 1945 in Newfoundland. She grew up in St. Joseph's, St. Mary's Bay and at the age of 14 moved to St. John's to finish her schooling. She stayed on and worked there until she moved to Penticton in March, 1975 and found a "place to stay forever". She relished her new home but always stayed wholeheartedly connected to her Newfoundland roots. In November, 1979 she met her soulmate, Larry Sherstobitoff. It was a match made in heaven and they shared twenty-eight loving years, working hard, enjoying each other and their favourite activities which included traveling in their Suzuki, camping, fishing, dancing and spending lots of time with their many friends and their animals. Dee was widely admired and respected for the contribution she made to the lives of so many people during a 26 year career at the Penticton Community Law Office. Her devotion to the community extended to years of volunteering for major events as well as sitting on the Boards of South Okanagan Women in Need Society and the Soupeteria. She also worked with the Social Planning Committee of the City of Penticton. After retiring, Dee became very involved in walking and running, found a whole new community and added to her circle of friends. She joined the Sun Run clinic in 2001, completed seven Sun Runs and many Interior Road Races, including four half marathons. As a member of the Penticton Pounders she was named Rookie of the year in 2006. This award has recently been renamed "The Dee Duggan Rookie of the Year Award". Dee considered this to be a great honour. Predeceased by her parents, Art and Theresa Duggan. Dee is survived by the love of her, Larry; his mother Polly Sherstobitoff; her dearly loved cousins and her friends, far and wide. Everyone who has been fortunate enough to know and love Dee has been touched by a wonderful human being. We all mourn the loss of this unique and cherished person. Thanks are extended to the many people who helped, supported and comforted Dee and her family and friends during the last stage of her life. Flowers are greatly declined. Donations in Dee's memory may be made to: Healing Touch, c/o Penticton United Church; South Okanagan Women In Need Society; Discovery House (c/o St. Ann's Catholic Church). Dee's life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial and reception at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1296 Main Street, Penticton on March 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Dee's life will take place in St. Joseph's, St. Mary's Bay, Newfoundland at a later date to be announced. Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1-250-493-4112.
