Charles Ryder
RYDER, CHARLES ELMER (CHARLIE) - Charles Elmer (Charlie) Ryder, 76, of Havelock passed away Thursday, December 26 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Salem, he was a son of the late Elmer and Phyllis (Verrill) Ryder. Together with his wife Margaret they opened Charlie's General Store (1963) in Havelock which they proudly operated for forty years. Charlie spent many hours on the history of Havelock and its residents and he enjoyed travelling with his wife. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of fifty-two years Margaret (Perkins); children Peter (Trina) of Salem Road, Barry (Brenda) of Killams Mills and Penny Ryder of Havelock; cherished grandchildren Sadi, Marlee, Philip and Tony; sister Helen Irwin (late Walter) of Chelmsford, MA; brother-in-law Lyle Hicks and sister-in-law Darlene Ryder both of Havelock; several nieces and nephews and many good friends. Predeceased by son Philip, brother Esson and sister Patricia Hicks.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) visiting will be Sunday, December 29 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and from where the funeral will be held in the chapel Monday, December 30 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jarvis Lepper officiating. Interment at Trinity United Church Cemetery, Havelock at a later date.
