SPARKES, MABELLE GERTRUDE – With her family at her side the death of Mabelle Sparkes, wife of the late John Sparkes occurred on December 27, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born on September 4, 1921 at Victoria Corner to the William and Lula (Sommers) Heywood. Mabelle received her batchers degree from Olivet Nazarene University and her masters degree for the University of Illinois, she spend her career as an educator both as a teacher and principal. She was a foster parent for many years. She is survived her daughters: Jacqueline Davis (Larry) of Naples, FL, Saundra MacKenzie (Stuart) of Halifax, NS; brother, Steve Haywood (Shirley); sister, Mary Bridgeo; grandchildren, Kelly, Dusty, Laury, D. Grant, Morgan, Hannah, Dylan; many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; brothers: Roy, Don, Bliss and Rex; sister, Ella.
Resting at River Valley Wesleyan Church, 45 Ridge Way, Grand Bay-Westfield on Tuesday, December, 31 started at 10:00 am until the time of the service, with the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date in Sackville, New Brunswick. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
