Freda Wheaton
WHEATON, FREDA - Freda Wheaton (Steeves) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, December 27th, 2013 at the age of 96. She was born in Edgetts Landing January 21st, 1917 she was the only daughter of Ernest Clinton Steeves and Vanessa Maude Steeves. She was a beloved wife of 65 years to Woodrow Wheaton. Mother to Keith Brian (Betty) and Carolyn Vanessa, grandmother to Kimberley Betty Wheaton-Fuerst (Rob), Nancy Ruth Wheaton, Maryanne Catherine MacDonald (Dale), great grandmother to Kolby Robert Wheaton-Fuerst, Kamryn Keith MacDonald, Dryden Robert Wheaton-Fuerst and Tianna Kimberley Wheaton-Fuerst, sister-in-law to Mary Ethel Steeves and Betty Trecartin Steeves and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Harold Kendall Steeves (Violet), Raymond Patterson Steeves and Frank Maynard Steeves. She died as she lived with grace, humour and religious conviction. She was a long standing member of 1st Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her greatest happiness was her interaction with her family and her beloved pets Paddington, Jingo and Impy. She will be remembered by her family as providing a happy and faith based home. She showed through her actions as a role model of strength and commitment during all the hardships of her life. Freda's talents included knitting, crocheting, quilting, accomplished needle point and painting. Family and friends were always welcomed to her table. She was wordsmith, created poetry and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Socially she loved to play bridge and took part in community bridge marathons, senior bridge at the senior center with her son and her long standing neighbor bridge games. Her family will remember Freda singing a tune and her exceptional gardening. Her spirit and character provided a role model for her grandchildren of strength and integrity. She will be missed.
A funeral service will be held at the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room.
