Mary Esther Crossman
CROSSMAN, Mary Esther – 90, Brookfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born September 14, 1923, in Brentwood, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Eleanor (Boomer) Stevens. Mary was a member of Knox United Church and a lifelong member of the UCW. She enjoyed bowling, crafts, traveling and camping at Grand Lake with her family. Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Arkens, Hilden; son, Alvin Lee Crossman (Donna Mae), Nine Mile River; sisters, Pearl Taylor, Birch Hill; Ethel Fell, Montreal; Lena Fell, Toronto; brother, Cecil (Alice) Stevens, Brookfield; grandchildren, Kevin (Cyndi) Arkens, Bradley Arkens (Patrick), Julie Custance, Chadwick Crossman; great grandchildren, Eden and Adam Arkens; Blaze Custance; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; sisters, Irma, Edith, Hazel; brothers, Ralph, Burpee, Duane. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Mary’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, January 5, 2014. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, January 6, 2014, in Knox United Church, 51 Highway 289, Brookfield, Reverend Boyd Vincent officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Spring interment in Brookfield Westside Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Mary’s memory to Knox United Church or Crohns and Colitis Foundation are welcomed.
