Harold was well-known to the community through his daily routine. He would hitch hike into Sydney Mines and go to Reid’s Garage, walk to The Dollar Store, go to the Capital Drug Store, then Nala’s Bakery & Deli, and then to Foodland. At each store he would tease the girls, tell jokes and flirt. His antics would brighten everyone’s day. He would then hitchhike home with his hands full of bags. Harold thrived on these daily interactions. He would arrive back home with a chocolate bar and a small Pepsi for Theresa and fill her in on the latest news. Thank you to all those who provided transportation to Dad over the years and kept him warm, safe and dry.
Theresa was more of a homebody. Her weekly outing was to get her hair done at Greenhill Hair Styling and visit with Georgie and Sherry. She loved blueberry picking and was well-known for her amazing apple and blueberry pies. Theresa and Harold loved dancing and would often go to the Legions. Harold’s love of animals was only exceeded by their love of family.
Harold and Theresa were inseparable, so much so, they left this life together. They were very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation for Harold and Theresa Rasmussen will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of their lives will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. J. J. MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
