VERNER, JOHN JOSEPH - On Thursday, January 2, 2014, John Joseph Verner, devoted husband and best friend to Beverly (Mills) Verner for 43 years, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Saint John, he is the son of Margaret (Swain) Verner and the late John Michael Verner. John was a proud member of Local 601 papermakers union and was employed with Irving paper for 36+ years, retiring in 2007. He loved life and was always so positive and fun loving. He enjoyed sports, had a passion for cars and was an avid guitar player. John’s life centered around his grandchildren and family. They were the “light of his life” and he was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin and uncle. John and Bev had wonderful times at their winter place in Largo, Florida making memories with their “Florida Family”. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his wife Beverly and mother Margaret, John is also survived by his son John Reginald “Reg” and Nicole Verner of Quispamsis; daughter Tammy French and Mike Garland of Quispamsis; brother Bill and Bonnie Verner of Rothesay; sister Theresa and Lew Squires of Saint John; sister-in-law Jane and Lionel Vautour of Saint John; grandchildren Tyler, Kyle, Cody, Hayley and James, as well as many extended family members. In addition to his father, John was also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Garnet and Betty Mills and his sister-in-law Donna Kennie.
Arrangements entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 6, 2014 from Stella Maris Catholic Church at 12:00 noon with interment at a later date. Following the funeral, a reception will be held at the church. Donations in John’s memory can be made to M.A.D.D. or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
