It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing on January 10th of Mary J. Harris, of Markland aged 96 years. A very much loved and devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister and friend. Predeceased by husband Wilson (Wes), daughter Shirley Bursey, son-in-law Len Bursey, Grandson Glenn Bursey, as well as daughters-in-law; Josephine and Marcie.
Left to honour and cherish her memory are sons Ray (Dorothy), Don (Barbara), Skip (Doris), Todd (Helen), sister Deanna Gosse (Don), Gander, brothers John (Sheila) St. John's, Fred (Mary), Carbonear, sister-in-law Gertie Yetman; as well as eleven(11) Grandchildren, eleven(11) Great-Grandchildren and a large cirlce of other relatives and friends, including Jennie Alley and her extended family at Hill Crest Estates, Mount Pearl. Mary was born in Spaniards Bay in 1918 and moved to Markland in her teens. There she met and married her husband Wes and settled down to raise five (5) children. They both worked as a team at Markland Hospital for many years, she in charge of Dietary, Laundry and Housekeeping, and Wes looking after Maintenance and anything else required of him. There, they became very well known throughout the area, for their compassion, kindness, and generosity. Mary was also very active in her Church and Community. And as anyone who knew her will attest, she loved a game of cards or bingo. She will be sorely missed. Mary will be resting at Holloway's Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Sunday, Jan. 12, 11:00 am - 9:00 pm, Monday, 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. Funeral Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne on Monday, Jan 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Mary's memory may be made to the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church Building Fund.
