Jean Marie Acker

Jean Marie Acker (nee Gale) 88 of Fort Lawrence, NS and formerly of New Glasgow, NS passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at her home.
Born on November 13, 1925 in New Glasgow, NS, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Lomond) Gale.
Mom was raised by her foster parents Angus and Jessie Campbell of Trenton, NS.
She was educated at the Roman Catholic School in New Glasgow and then worked at Clarke Rose Aircraft factory, repairing airplane parts during the Second World War in Eastern Passage, NS.
Mom enjoyed crocheting, knitting and handcrafting jewellery. She loved playing the piano. In her youth on Saturday nights you could often hear her and her uncle playing Cape Breton Music on Antigonish Radio.
In 1944, Mom married Dad. While raising four children, they operated the family business, the Avon Restaurant in Windsor, NS. At this time she developed an interest in CB Radio and joined the local club. Mom and dad eventually settled in Fort Lawrence, Cumberland County, NS, to be near their eldest daughter. Here she became an avid gardener.
Mom will be forever loved and missed by Dad and her family.
She is survived by her husband, Bernal; daughters, Donalda (Teddy) Gaudet, Nappan, Roxinne (George) McCallum, New Glasgow and Lynnette (Kevin) Nickerson, Pinehurst, NS; son, Christopher (Debora) Acker, Mahone Bay, NS; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother, Edward Gale, Chicago, IL; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her brother, Wilford “Bill” Gale; and foster brothers, Duncan and John Campbell.
Cremation has taken place.
At Mom’s request there will be no visitation.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Reception will follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mom’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906).
