George Hayden

NEW GLASGOW – George Bertram “Bert” Hayden, 85, of North Avenue, New Glasgow, passed away January 13, 2014 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Bert and Catherine (Keenan) Hayden.
Bert was a resident of New Glasgow for most of his life where he was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. During his working years he was a past employee of the former Hawker Siddeley Rail Car Plant for over 20 years, as well as a former employee of the New Glasgow Stadium from where he retired. He was a proud member of the First Battalion Black Watch.
Surviving are sons, Bert Hayden (Nancy), Pleasant Valley; Jimmy Morrison (Heather), Stellarton; David Hayden (Cassandra), Saskatchewan; Billy Hayden (Stacey), NL; Graham Hayden (Jill), New Glasgow; daughters, Roxanne (Billy), New Glasgow; Lynn (Robert) Royea, New Glasgow; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, brothers, John “Jack” (Marion), Plymouth; a sister Isabel (Donnie) MacDonald, Plymouth; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Tommy and a brother Francis in infancy, sisters Katherine MacLeod and Mabel Roach, a nephew Jackie Roach.
Cremation to take place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial of ashes will take place in the Abercrombie Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Bert may be made to the Pictou County VON or to the Holy Cross Cemetery.
