We regret to announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Christena Pauline MacDonald, 91, of Coxheath.
As she wished Christena passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 13, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Born in Shenacadie, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Sarah (MacAdam) MacKinnon.
Christena took great pride in her Scottish heritage, travelling to Scotland several times to trace her roots. She was a fluent Gaelic speaker and former member of the Gaelic Society. She loved spending time “up the country” (at Shenacadie). Christena was a very religious woman devoted to her Catholic faith and St. Anne de Beaupré. She enjoyed cooking for others, especially her cherished granddaughter Emily. Mom was happiest surrounded by all her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gardening and planting flowers was always a favorite pastime.
She is survived by her loving children, Eugene, Coxheath, Mary (Louis) Digout, River Bourgeois, and Irene (Peter) Long, Coxheath; cherished grandchildren, Suzanne (Ken) Miles, Michael (Shannon) Long, Stephen (Jill) Long, Emily Long, Louis Digout, Jackie Digout and Mark Digout; great-grandchildren, Christina, Sarah, Kaitlyn Miles and Mikie, Rhiannon, Xander Long.
Christena was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; son, John, sisters, Mary and Elizabeth and brothers, Neil and Rannie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Murphy, for his many years of compassionate care to our mother.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River. Rev. Duaine Devereaux will officiate. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
