It is with great sadness the family announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Gertrude Dunphy, 81, on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Grace (Pieroway) Rose.
Gertrude was a member of St. Joseph parish, North Sydney, she volunteered at the Salvation Army retail outlet and in her younger years was an avid walker.
Gertrude is survived by her two sons, Donald (Jane) Dunphy, North Sydney, Victor (Barb) Dunphy, Kentville; by her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; by her brothers, Ronald (Shirley) Rose, Jackie (Sarah) Rose, James (Wilma) Rose, Andrew (Diana) Rose, all of North Sydney, Gerry (Donna) Rose, Westmount, Llewellyn (Paulette) Rose, Dartmouth; by her sisters, Ada Haggerty and Bertha (Lenny) McCormick, both of Sydney Mines.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Dunphy, also by brothers, Dave, Maurice and Wilfred Rose and sisters, Pamela Boyden, Ruby Harnish, Zita Fowler, Edith Corkery, Ann Holland and Nell Coulet.
In accordance with Gertrude’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family graveside committal service will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice in Gertrude’s memory.
