Hazell, Douglas John: Petty Officer 1st Class Douglas John Hazell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 at the age of 72 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro. Born in Norval ON, he was a son of the late Victor and Margarie Hazell. Leaving behind are his loving wife Beverly of 53 years; sons, Victor (Kerry), Belleville ON, Grant (Melanie), Dartmouth, Doug (Shannon), Debert; daughter, Lisa (Dale), Belleville ON; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his loving dog Missy. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin; grandson, Billy; granddaughter, Jennifer. Doug served 25 years with the Canadian Navy and was a commissionaire for 20 years at CFS Debert, Crossley Carpet and the Truro Hospital. He enjoyed long walks and working in the yard. No visitation or flowers by request. Funeral service will be held 2pm Friday, January 17, at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with Rev. Brian DeLong officiating. Interment at a later date in the Camden Cemetery. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26 Truro.
