It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Lois Margaret Ives, on October 19, 2008, at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Mom was born at St. Mary’s Road, P.E.I., in April 1933, and was one of 12 children born to the late James and Laura McGuigan. She left the Island at a young age to work in Halifax. Mom was a strong and courageous woman who worked incredibly hard her whole life while raising four children. In 1995 she retired from the Halifax Regional School Board where she had been employed for 20 years as a maintenance worker at the Admiral Westphal and Ellen Junior High Schools. Mom enjoyed gardening, cooking and shopping, and always had a special bond with each of our family dogs. Her greatest joy was all of us — her children and grandchildren. She is survived by Richard (Heather Reid) and grandsons, Thomas and Andrew, North Carolina; Nancy Ives, Dartmouth; Sally Ives Hori (Thom), Dartmouth; Doug (Rebecca Kress-Ives); grandsons, Dashiell and Samuel, Ontario. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Brian Miller. She will be dearly missed by all of us and those that knew her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, on November 18 at 1 p.m. Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
