It is with great sadness that the family of Ivan Everett Swanson announce his passing on January 15, 2014 at the Regina General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Elise Swanson; brothers, Jim and Jack; his first wife, Evelyn; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Darwin and Tillie Nelson; brother-in-law, Ed Weinbender; and sister-in-law, Agnes Swanson. Ivan will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Edith; stepson, Bernie Weinbender; granddaughter Stephanie (Tim) Harlodson; great grandsons, Iden and Ashlin; granddaughter, Shauna (Steve) Seymour; stepson Doug (Laurie) Weinbender; grandsons Monty, Ryley, and Jared (Kaley); great granddaughters, Alisha and Madison; granddaughter Cheralee (Chad) Placsko; great grandson, Birk; great granddaughter, McKenzie; sister-in-law, Darlene Hodgson; nephew Jim (Daylene) Weinbender; grandnephews, Duncan and Devin; niece, Lynn (Les) Smith; grandnephew and niece, Lee and Lisa; sister-in-law, Grace Swanson, and her children Carol, John, Laurie, Eric and their families; nephew Arthur (Adele) and family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ivan was born in Lestock, SK on September 12, 1932. When he was 11 years old they moved to the farm south of Ernfold, SK. Ivan had a brief career with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool's construction department in the late 50's, where he honed his carpentry skills. He returned to the farm and lived there until 1998. He married Evelyn Nelson on June 18, 1966. Their marriage lasted for 25 years until Evelyn's passing on May 23, 1992. Ivan then married Edith Weinbender on December 17, 1997. Our family knew Ivan as a kind, considerate neighbor, but we soon became to know him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ivan was a immediate hit with the family due to his kind, gentle, unassuming nature and everyone looked forward to having a visit. He was a great mechanic and loved to fix up old cars and tractors. He could build anything with just an axe and hammer. When you least expected it, Ivan would start into a project and build himself a shed or garage, or restore and old relic into a classic vehicle. Ivan enjoyed auction sales, always coming home with his truck loaded with treasures. He loved farming and couldn't wait until spring so he could get out in his 1270 case tractor. He was always willing to help anyone out, and he hardly ever would ask for help in return. He had a good sense of humor, and loved to bug and tease. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time with family, who were all so important to him. Ivan was a great man and will be missed by everyone who knew him. It is very hard to say good-bye, but we know the love we have for him, will mean he will be with us forever. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
