Petty Officer Wm (Bill) Beaumont, RCN, CD, – Truro, passed away on Thursday, February 6 in Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax.

Born in Innisfil, Ontario on May 19, 1930. Grew up in Toronto and Sebright, Ontario. Predeceased by mother and father, Victor and Mina Beaumont. Survived by wife, Bessie of 59 years; daughter, Beverley (Dave); sons, Victor (Colleen) and Darryl (Patti); grandchildren, Lori- Anne Leger, Red Deer, AB, Victor, Halifax, Christine, Pamala, Truro; step grandchildren, Michael and Brittany, Halifax; step great grandchildren, Tyairah and Mahlik, Halifax; brother Victor (Rita), Brechin, ON; many nieces and nephews. Bill joined the Navy in 1949. He served on 13 ships, his most favorite one being the HMCS HAIDA. He traveled around the world two times. He fought in the Korean War on the HMCS HAIDA, injured and spent time in hospital in Korea. On his return from Korea he met the love of his life, Bessie. They married in 1954. During his career, they resided in Halifax and Victoria, BC. They took their children on vacations every summer in Canada and US. Bill and family retired in 1971 and moved to NS from BC. They lived in Hilden for forty years. Bill held several jobs, purchasing, maintenance and real estate. He also owned his own business, Beaumont Ind. Ltd. for ten years. He was involved in getting a new school for Hilden, a volunteer Fire Department, which he became the first fire chief for four years and became an honorary member. He had a love for sports, especially coaching hockey and ball. Bill loved to play Santa on board ships for the young kids and at the Hilden School and others. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, February 10 in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service at 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, February 11 in St. John’s Anglican Church, 25 Church Street, Truro, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gary Yetman officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Terrace Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, S.P.C.A. or charity of choice. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Murray for his years of dedication to Bill.
