It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dolores Margaret McEvoy of Dartmouth.
Born February 12, 1951 in Neil’s Harbour, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Anne (LaRusic) McEvoy.
Dolores will be fondly remembered for the value she placed on friendship, her gentle nature, her considerate council and her sly wit. She was always willing to volunteer her time and energy to help others with a considerate deed or a kind word. She treasured the time spent with friends and family, especially her daughters Orla and Molly and her new granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth. In Dolores’ words “I have no regrets”.
She grew up in Ingonish where she worked at the family general store and the Highlands Links before moving to Montreal where she completed a degree in Social Work at Dawson College. She came back to Cape Breton to raise her two daughters before moving to Halifax. She worked for many years at the Doll House & Paper Gardens and most recently at Convergys in Dartmouth. She was a proud member of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia.
Dolores is survived by her daughters Orla and Molly (Paul); granddaughter Charlotte Elizabeth; sisters Eileen (Perry) Manzuk, Halifax, Mary Alice (Gerald) Daisley, Cape North and Susan, Dartmouth; brothers Patrick (Fritz) (Maggie), Cape North and Joe (Susan), Bedford, many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunt and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Theresa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb 12 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Birch Cove Baptist Church at 10 Donaldson Ave. in Halifax. A funeral will be held at the same location on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at a private ceremony in Cape North in the summer. Arrangements are under the care of Cole Harbour Crematorium.
