Gertrude Graves
Gertrude Graves, a long time resident of Indian Wells, California died February 8th at the age of 90
Mrs. Graves, who was known as Gert by her friends and neighbors. She was born in 1923 in Upper Granville, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Phinney and Leta Phinney of Upper Granville. She graduated from Bridgetown High School then married Frank Graves in 1943 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. After the war she and Frank operated the Mountain Gap Inn outside of Digby.
In 1952 she and her family moved to Southern California. Her husband Frank became active in the housing industry, building homes and apartments in various communities in California. In 1962 they moved to Pebble Beach, California and were semi-retired, later settling in Indian Wells, California.
Her husband Frank, passed away in 1998.
Mrs. Graves is survived by her sisters and brothers, Phyllis Larson of San Rafael, California; Barbara Cress of Kentville, Nova Scotia; Carl Phinney of Upper Granville, Nova Scotia; Robert Phinney of Diamond Bar, California and Sandra Laing of Calgary, Alberta. She is also survived by her five children, Sheila Gary of Hayden Lake, Idaho; Frank Graves of Scottsdale, Arizona; Linda Carlile of Peoria, Arizona; Steve Graves of Eugene, Oregon; Gary Graves of Incline Village, Nevada and eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
