Gladys MacDonald, 76 of Port Morien, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Gladys was the daughter of the late John and Isabel (Orr) Gilholm.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church, Port Morien. Gladys started her working career as a telephone operator in Port Morien and later she retired from Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Schoolboard. She was a life member at Branch 55, Royal Canadian Legion, Port Morien, and served as Legion Chaplain and secretary. Gladys was very community-minded and volunteered her time at her church and legion; she was always ready to lend a helping hand. But mostly, Gladys will be remembered as having a great sense of humour, a quick wit; and the ability to tell a good joke or story.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Paula (Randy), Bedford; two brothers, David (Deanna), Jack, both in Sydney; one sister, Catherine, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Chris and Scott Aucoin and her special nephew, Christopher Gilholm.
Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Michael, one son, Alan Michael and a sister, Margie.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Robert Biggar is Saturday, 2 p.m. in St. John’s United Church, Port Morien. Interment in Blackbrook Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception at Branch 55 RCL, Port Morien.
