It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Frances MacNeil, 91, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, on Tuesday Feb. 11, 2014.
Born in Sydney, Frances was the daughter of the late Michael and Florence MacNeil of Sydney.
Frances was a graduate of Holy Angels Convent and on Aug. 11, 1943, she married the love of her life, Malcolm MacNeil. Frances and Malcolm lived most of their married life in Mississauga, Ont., where Frances was a longtime employee of Lever Brothers. In 1996 Fran and Malk returned to Cape Breton, living in Sydney River and recently residing at
the Harbourstone Enhanced Care.
Frances was a person of great faith attending Our Lady of Fatima Church for many years. Her interests included quilting and tending to her beautiful gardens. Fran and Malk loved to travel, visiting many parts of the world.
Frances is survived by her only brother, Father Joseph A. MacNeil of Shenacadie and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Malcolm in 2012, sisters, Theresa Marie and Collette.
Special thanks is extended to the wonderful staff of Steelworkers Lane - Harbourstone Enhanced Care — for their care, concern and genuine love for Frances.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island, from 9 to 11a.m. Funeral Mass will be held immediately following, beginning at 11 a.m. with Fr. Joe A. MacNeil presiding. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
