BARNES, VIOLET – Peacefully, in her sleep, the death of Violet Barnes of Saint John, wife of the late Garland M. Barnes, occurred at her residence on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Violet was born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland on October 24, 1918 and was a daughter of the late James and Katie Sweetland. She had been a resident of Grand Bay-Westfield since 1984 and was a member of the former St. Giles United Church. Violet is survived by her son Edwin (Shirley Allingham) and her daughter Elizabeth (Betty) Roach (the late Donald); one sister Nellie (Colis) Hookey; two grandchildren Michael and Michelle and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Richard James and several brothers and sisters.
By request of the family there will be no visiting or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery later in the spring. For those who wish donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
