Retired R.C.M.P Corporal Frank M. Salter passes away.

Frank Mervin Salter - 71, of Kentville, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 with his wife Edna by his side. Born in Pictou on October 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Frank and Ethel Salter. He was a proud veteran of the R.C.M.P. having served 30 years in Newfoundland (1963-1993) and retired with the rank of Corporal. He truly loved his time in Newfoundland, which came to be his second home. He was an avid outdoorsman and a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Gyro Club. Upon retirement in 1993 he returned to his native Nova Scotia and settled in Kentville, a part of the Annapolis Valley. He enjoyed his daily visits to Tim Horton's and leaves to mourn many friends and wonderful neighbors, including special friend, Barb King, with whom he cherished many laughs. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Edna Blandford (Barbour); a daughter, Arlene Breen (Rod); a son, David; a brother, Wayne (Margaret); step-sons, Craig Barbour (Dana) and Steven Barbour (M.J.); grandchildren, Luke and Molly Breen, Madeline and James Salter; step-grandchildren, Kyle and Matthew Barbour; sister-in-law, Patsy Myette-Noble (Bryce); brothers-in-law, Peter Byrne (Mary) and William Byrne (Rosella); step-sisters-in-law, Arlene Hodder (Leslie), Shirley Manuel (Frank) and Eleanor Shea (Donald); brother-in-law, Everett Blandford (Patsy); special aunts, Bertha and Eileen Matheson; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his adored first wife, Madeline; brothers-in-law, Edmund Myette and William Dahle; a sister-in-law, Theresa Dahle. Visitation will be held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014, Reverend Gerald Zinck and Majors Ross and Doreen Grandy officiating. Interment will be held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. No flowers by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice.
