Stewart Harrison Matheson, age 92, of Glace Bay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital in Glace Bay.
Born in Louisbourg, he was the son of the late Charlie and Winnifred Matheson.
Stewart was a veteran of the Second World War and also a member of various legions in Glace Bay. Stewart was known to many as the bread man.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Stewart was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by sons, Danny (Martha Burrows), Charlie (Marcia Pitts), Joe (Linda Burnett); daughters, Winnie (John) Young, Rose Matheson Peach; 10 loving grandchildren Geraldine, Tena (Mike), Dano (Danielle), Tyrone (Andrea), Shana (Malcom), Jenell (Jason), Jaime (Dan), Michael (Tammy), Mason (Alex) and Angie, nine great-grandchildren, Mauve, Liam, Brady, Taylor, Christian, Ethan, Tayah, Faith and Bryson; and in-laws, Lill (Reggie Jessome), Sundy McInnis, Joe (Marie) Bianchini, Eph Arsenault.
Besides his parents, Stewart was predeceased by his wife, Vinnie, brothers, Danny and Everett.
Visitation for Mr. Matheson will be on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. in St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery Glace Bay.
