It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norman 'Doddy" Gerrow, 79 of Florence, on Feb. 20, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Norman was born on Nov. 24, 1934 to the late William and Agnes Gerrow. He was the loving husband of Helen Gerrow.
Norman was a treasured husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who lived every moment of his life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by children, Richard (Diane), Brenda, Betty (Melvin) MacLean, David (Jackie), Janet (Danny) Herridge and Russell (Paula). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Tracey, Crystal, Vicki, Christina, Ryan, Mark, Melissa, Matthew, Danny, Jenestia, Belinda, Dillon and David; as well as his 17 great-grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his brothers, Russell, Richard, Tommy, Johnny, Freddie and his sisters, Gertrude, Mabel and Catherine.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, in particular, those in the ICU and IMCU, who provided such wonderful care and support over the past few months.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation. There will be a private service for family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home in Sydney Mines.
