Malcolm Roderick "Mac" MacKinnon

MacKINNON, Malcolm Roderick “Mac” - 84, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at The Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro. Born April 4, 1929, in Truro, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Mary Sarah (MacInnis) MacKinnon. Mac was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church all his life where he served as an elder, member of the Board of Managers, Clerk of Session and sang with St. James Male Chorus. He worked for nearly 40 years with CNR and in his retirement years, he was employed for a number of years as a custodian with First United Church and was a key member of “The Happy Gang”. He was an avid hockey and ball player and loved to watch his Blue Jays. He also loved to dance, especially to a Cape Breton fiddle, and bowled into his eighties. Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria Audrey (Courtney); daughter, Gayle (Ted) Pantelakis, Newburyport, U.S.A.; sons, Gordon (Denise), Truro; Fred (Goldie), Edmonton; Glenn (Tamara), Truro; Danny (Shalene), Calgary; grandchildren who he loved with all his heart and who brought him great joy, Nick, Tyler, Chris, Roddie, Laura, Nic, Matt, Daniel, Zachary, Camryn; great grandchildren, Madison, Ewan, Ella, Cara, Cameron, James; older brother and friend, Allan (Connie), as well as many nephews and nieces. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Malcolm and Edward in infancy, Alex, Archie, Neil, Silas; grandson, Benjamin. Mac’s family would like to thank their good friend, Laura Reid, and the staff of The Mira for their love and care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Mac’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., today, Monday, February 24, 2014. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2014, in St. James Presbyterian Church, 725 Prince Street, Truro, Reverend Clair MacLeod officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Watson Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Mac’s memory to St. James Presbyterian Church (Memorial Fund) are welcomed.
