Donald Hamblin
Donald Ross Hamblin passed away in his 90th year on February 19, 2014 at the veterans care unit of Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Born in Peterborough Ontario on August 14, 1924, he was the son of Harold and Vivian (Waram) Hamblin. Don was predeceased by his wife Evelyn and son Eric and is survived by cousin Eleanor, son Philip, daughter Karen and grandchildren Graham, Hannah, Amy, Angus and Duncan.
Don enjoyed traveling and visited much of Canada as well as Scotland and New Zealand. He was a particularly strong supporter of public transit which he considered the best, if not always the easiest, form of transportation. However Don will be remembered most for his love of libraries and the various subjects and topics held in the books on their shelves. From the Ontario communities of Peterborough, Pembroke and Parry Sound, as far west as Powell River BC, and in his later life in Wolfville, New Minas and Kentville Nova Scotia, Don was seen almost daily on the bus to or from the local library.
