Smith, John (Jack) I. – The death of Jack Smith of Saint John, husband of Sybil (Mercer) Smith, occurred after a brief illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Born in Bishop’s Cove, NL on November 12, 1922, he was a son of the late John E. and Irene (Peddle) Smith. He has been a resident of Saint John since 1946 and was employed, for over 40 years, as a pipe fitter with Irving Pulp & Paper. Jack was a member of St. John’s (Stone) Church and loved to read and do puzzles. He is survived by his wife Sybil, daughter Susan (Larry) Merritt of Hampton, his granddaughter Jennifer (Mark) Ganong of Hampton, and great-granddaughter Rhylee, brother Leslie (Ella) Smith of NL, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters; Rachel, Suzie, Elizabeth and Gladys.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home (634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, with visiting hours Sunday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. The Funeral will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 from St. John’s (Stone) Church with service at 2 pm. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery.
