Passed away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Sunday, March 2, 2014, age 88 years. Born in South Wales on July 3, 1925, she came to Newfoundland in 1946 as a war bride. Predeceased by parents: John and Mary Jane Rowlands of South Wales; sisters Marion Rowlands and Ray James; sister-in-law Evelyn Canning. Leaving to mourn her husband of 69 years, William Saunders her best friend in life; children Denise Fitzpatrick (Wayne), Dave Saunders (Susan), Diane Eason (Melvin); 3 precious grandchildren who she adored: Jenna, Rhys and Stephanie; 5 special nieces and nephews: John James (Laura), Glenys Fillier, Karen Tremblett (Wallace), Bill James (Corinne), Brenda Howell (Dwight); sisters-in-law: Marjorie Andrews, Lily Warford, Jean Chafe as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends in South Wales and Newfoundland. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave on Monday, March 3, 2014 and Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from Barrett's Chapel on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00pm with interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Field of Honor.
