Eric Wilson Nickerson - 68, of Grafton, Kings County, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late George "Allen" and Evelyn (Pearson) Nickerson. Eric graduated from Central Kings, Nova Scotia Agricultural College and Kemptville Agricultural College (Ontario). Eric was the founder of Nickerson's Apple-Bee Acres, farming twenty acres of apple orchard and built the company up to three thousand hives before retirement. It was a real family business as wife, Lynn and later son, Kevin worked with him. Beekeeping was his passion. Eric was first to palletize beehives and build an overwintering building in Nova Scotia. He served as President of the Nova Scotia Beekeepers Association. Eric worked for DOT as a snowplow driver for 29 years and dispatched for 10 years. Being of strong faith, Eric was a devoted member of Woodville Baptist Church and actively served in capacities such as deacon, trustee, treasurer, choir, Bible Study and Alpha facilitator. Eric was the best loving and caring husband, father and grampie anyone could ever hope and dream of, proudly supporting his family at concerts and sporting events. He was past president of the Berwick Minor Hockey Association. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynn (Jermey); three daughters, Marsha (Peter) Freckelton, Port Williams; Joyce (Kevin) Bush, Whitewater, Wisconsin; Erica Schofield, Grafton; a son, Kevin (Sarah) Nickerson, Grafton; six grandchildren, Alyssa, Chad, Cameron, Wesley, Myah and Pearson; an aunt, Dorothy Dunklee-Luke, Grand View Manor, Berwick, and her children, Jean (Jim) West and Gerald (Cheryl) Dunklee; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Nickerson, Winnipeg; a niece, Sandra Nickerson, Winnipeg; a nephew, Peter (Vivian) Nickerson, Winnipeg and their children; several other nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by a brother, William. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, Reverend Freda MacDonald and Reverend Don Hirtle officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in the Grafton Methodist Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Woodville Baptist Church Organ Fund or the Margaret Salsman Cancer Care Memorial Fund. Eric's family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mercer, Dr. Merryweather, consulting specialists and all nursing and support staff involved with Eric for their care and compassion.
