John “Russell” Moore, age 76, of “The Crossing”, Garlands Crossing, Hants County, formerly of Mount Uniacke, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on May 11, 1937, in East Uniacke, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John and Grace (Etter) Moore. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, the former Sylvia Barbara Gilby; son, Bradley Moore, Kelowna, British Columbia; daughter, Karen (Mike) Morash, Avondale, Hants County; and very special grandson, Chad Morash. Also surviving is a sister, Elizabeth Mitchell, Sackville. Russell was a truck driver at heart and worked as a driver, auditor and safety inspection officer. He also served as a member of the Nova Scotia Trucking Association. In his early years, Russell worked for Hefler’s, Roy Davie, Dartmouth Ready Mix, Fina and retired after serving 30 years with Petro-Canada. Retirement was short lived and he accepted a position with Coastal Trucking, finally retiring at the age of 70. Russell enjoyed camping with Uniacke Gold Diggers (of which he was one of the founding members) and vacationing with family and friends. He also enjoyed taking trips in his motorhome throughout Canada and the United States. He was very much involved with Boy Scouts and with Girl Guides. The family would like to thank Palliative Care (Bev Lyttle), physicians and staff at the Hants Community Hospital, Rev. Gloria Churchill and St. Paul’s United Church family. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Windsor. The memorial service was 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Saint Paul’s United Church, 293 Etter Road, Mount Uniacke. The Rev. Gloria Churchill officiated, followed by a private family burial in the Union Cemetery. A reception was held in St. Paul’s United Church Hall. Donations in memory of Russell, were requested to be made to the Saint Paul’s United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
