Gertie Sewell of Coderre, SK passed away on March 9, 2014, at the age of 87 years. She was born on the family farm near Gravelbourg on February 14, 1927. She attended school in Gravelbourg at the Convent. On August 14, 1947, Gertie married Bernard Sewell. They lived on the family farm and relocated to Trail, B.C. for a year. They returned to Saskatchewan in 1949, and lived in various communities while Bernard worked for the CPR. In 1970 Gertie and Bernard settled in Coderre. She worked for a couple years as a cook for the Convent in Coderre. Bernard passed away on December 1, 1983, after a long struggle with cancer. Gertie remained in Coderre until she recently moved to Moose Jaw. She was a wonderful cook and always made the best homemade soup. Gertie loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. She is predeceased by her husband Bernard Sewell; daughter Marie Kemick; infant son Armand. She is survived by her daughter Liz (Tom) Steen; daughter Jean (Leroy) Sordahl; daughter Theresa (Jack) Weiterman; daughter Yvonne (Deles) Yaschuck; daughter Diane Heimark; son Denis (Cathy) Sewell; daughter Alice (Chris) Hawkins; son Armand (Glenda) Sewell; son-in-law Dave Kemick; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Coderre, SK. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014, a 2:00 p.m. at the Coderre Community Centre, Coderre, SK. Interment will take place at the Coderre Roman Catholic Cemetery.
