James 'Jim' LaRusic

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jim LaRusic at his residence in St. Margaret’s Village on Thursday, March 13, 2014.
Jim was born in St. Margaret’s Village on October 31, 1931 to Patrick and Mary Evelena (Capstick) LaRusic. Jim spent many years in Orillia, Ontario where he operated a coffee business. He moved back to the family homestead in 1986 to manage the Central Co-op store. He also worked on the wharf for Victoria Co-op Fisheries before retiring. Jim was well known for his beautiful gardens, his skill in lawn mower repair and his abundance of second-hand parts. Jim was involved in his community as an active board member and past chairperson for Central Co-op, and past board member for the Bay St. Lawrence Credit Union. He was also an active member of St. Margaret of Scotland Church and was instrumental in the building of the new church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Millie (Fraser); sons, Sean Fraser, Vancouver, B.C. and Emery LaRusic, Mississauga, Ont.; sister, Theresa Turner, New Haven, and brothers Ignatius (Jill), Montreal, Que. and Joe (Liz), Vancouver, B.C. He is also survived by his stepchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brothers, Tony, Tim and Emery and his sisters, Sr. Patrice, Mary, Ann, Rita, Josie and Evelyn.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Church, St. Margaret’s Village with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Fr. Lazarus Guria officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
